Clinical  Hypnotherapy

De-stress your life!

There are a lot of myths surrounding hypnosis and sadly it's gotten a fairly raw deal in terms of credulity over the years, especially with stage hypnosis showing participants cavorting around like a chicken or similar.

So let's bust a few!

Firstly, NO-ONE can make you do anything you aren't comfortable doing whilst in trance. You are able to talk, walk about and are aware of everything that is going on around you. Being in hypnosis can be likened to being in an 'altered state of awareness'. In fact, we are in and out of this light trance state on and off all day. It could be classed as 'day dreaming'.

Ever driven a car when suddenly you 'come to' and wonder where you are? Been deep in a movie yet aware of the doorbell? Or engrossed in a book whilst on the train yet aware when it's your stop to get off? This is being in a light trance state - an altered state of awareness.

Hypnotherapists take this a lot further, transporting you into a much deeper trance state whereby we can 'park' the conscious part of the brain on one side whilst addressing the subconscious brain area. However, although parked, the conscious brain is still aware and will interrupt the process should any suggestion be made that it deems unhealthy. So, if you would be happy chewing on an onion then the conscious brain will happily allow you to do this.

What should I expect from my first session?

The first session is spent investigating the underlying condition followed by a hypnotherapy session. A plan is then made for a follow up session and/or follow up call.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no straight forward answer to this one and it's a bit like asking "how long is a piece of string". I have successfully treated conditions with only one session and there have been other occasions where several treatments have been required. The nature of the condition and the duration can also have a bearing. Some clients like to come for top-up sessions; for example extra reinforcement when dealing with weight loss before/after an event, e.g. Christmas.

How should I prepare for my first treatment?

No prior preparation is necessary however a knowledge of the presenting condition is required.

How long should I allow for the session?

The first session includes an in-depth consultation plus treatment so it is recommended to allow between one and two hours. For subsequent sessions please allow between one and one/half hours.
